This group was initially started to give BSNL elder members a reason to get out of the house and spend a day at the community centre.
The day was organised by the overseeing Trustee and the committee, with a welcoming drink which include tea, coffee, refreshments and also a light lunch.
The club was initiated by BSNL Board of Trustees and Mr.Navalshanker Vyas conducted the opening event in June 2009. Mr. Vinod Mehta the overseeing trustee, took over the baton in September 2012 and with a very able team of Dr.Sharad Mehta, Dr.Mukund Mehta and Mr.Shashikant Mehta, continued to entertain BSNL members with a different format of music, fun and educational talk each week.
BSNL members increased their social networking at the centre through which membership and attendance grew rapidly. Whilst initially BSNL members were not restricted to any criteria, the centre size could accommodate a limited number of attendees keeping in mind their health, comfort and most importantly Safety. The popularity soared and membership restrictions on age was introduced. BSNL Samaj allocated a larger hall to be used on Tuesdays from 11am to 2pm for this purpose.
Currently the Elders Club enjoys a ‘House Full’ situation and priority is given to BSNL Full members over the age of 65.
Every Tuesday from 11am onwards.
There are a number of professionals amongst the members and this helps organise various activities which include singing devotional and Bollywood songs, poetry, talks on various subjects, ‘Antakshri’, games, jokes, special Hindu cultural events to name a few. We are fortunate to have amongst us, some talented musicians and singers.
The members have also ventured outdoors on Picnics, Day Trips to the sea side and also on group trips abroad. Destinations in the past included Ireland, Crete, Mediterranean and Norwegian Fjords cruises, and India.
