Music – Harmonium

Early in 2018, BSNL was fortunate to receive a grant of £5,000 from ‘Tesco Bags’ to promote a healthy environment. Our project, Be Healthy via Music, Dance and Yoga, commenced in the summer of 2019 with the aim of improving the wellbeing of all local community elders over the age of 60. The essence of these activities was outdoors.

BSNL introduced Harmonium classes, held every Mondays for an hour, by Narendrabhai Jethwa. The pupils were taught basic notes, Alankars, and some compositions like Choti Choti Gaiya, Achyutam Keshavam, Hare Krishna dhoon and Ami Bhareli Nazaroo Rakhi. After the success of 2019 classes, in 2020 BSNL offered an additional class conducted ‘virtually’ over BSNL ‘Zoom’ platform, each Wednesday. Format was based on the same teaching of learning new Alankars, new bhajans and extra dhoons. Fresh students enrolling are encouraged learn the basics of Sa Re Ga Ma. The Harmonium Lessons continue over virtual platform of ‘Zoom’ and are now funded by the fees of the students.
