Yoga

Early in 2018, BSNL was fortunate to receive a grant of £5,000 from Tesco Bags to promote a healthy environment. Our project, Be Healthy via Music, Dance and Yoga, commenced in the summer of 2019 with the aim of improving the wellbeing of all local community elders over the age of 60. The essence of these activities was outdoors.

In 2019, our team hosted a yoga class at Karuna Manor Care Home, in Harrow. Celebrations also included participation in International Yoga Day , a public event in Kings Cross St. Pancras station. Both events were conducted by Mrs. Jyoti Joshi, Yoga Teacher from Patanjali. In 2020, the activities moved over to ‘virtual’ sessions being hosted almost daily in the mornings, participated by many, and enjoyed over BSNL ‘Zoom’ platform. Accredited teachers from Patanjali conducting the classes were Jyoti Joshi, Darshan Sohal, Shravan Podar, Prabhu Shah, Nina Keshani, Varsha Shukla, Nalini and Rasika Radia , Daxa Patel and Aleksandra Horwood (from Happy Stance Yoga Therapy). Classes included breathing (Pranayama) techniques, postures, sun salutations, meditation and how to remain calm, and a weekly focus on fall prevention, strength, balance, mobility and flexibility.

2021. Yoga has been very popular with members participating almost everyday of the week. Yoga started on Wednesday 6th January 2021 with Vedic ‘Havan and Yog’ conducted by Shree Hemangbhai. The Yoga Sessions have not commenced at the premises after the Covid pandemic.
